How Did I Not Know About This?

First; congratulations on the Hugo Award John Scalzi.

Second; Wow.

Written eight years ago and I am just now learning about that post.

Just a short run to Willow River and back. Also, I had to run up to Dave’s Cafe in Willow. On Monday when I stopped there to eat after returning from Carlton I left my riding gloves.  But the cool thing was the dog that paced me for two or more miles halfway between Rutledge and Willow River. I was going 17 miles an hour and that dog was jogging! Damn thing put me to shame. He stayed with me all the way into the heart of Rutledge before he finally stopped running with me. And lets get this straight: he did not follow me, he paced right in front of me. I think he could have maintained a 20 mph pace.

To be honest, I think he was toying with me.

I have to say that the wind is more than likely not accurate. I rode from Carlton, MN to the west end of Duluth. Riding the Munger Trail swings you east around the hills at the west end of Duluth and results in shifts of wind conditions. Plus, when I started at 2:15 PM it was mostly cloudy with small breaks of sky showing through. However, as I progressed along, the clouds dissipated and when I was done there was not a cloud in the sky. It was, all and all, a beautiful ride on a stretch of bike path I’ve not been on since the early 90s, and than only part of what I covered today.

I have pictures, which I will include as soon as I find the cable to connect my phone to the computer.

Update: Okay, here are the pictures.

Interesting

Both facebook and twitter are down. At least for me. Anyone else with this problem?

Update: Okay, now they are back.

The Storm That Passed In The Evening

Granted, it was nothing like what I videoed on Thursday night. Indeed, it was rather tame by most standards. Yet it knocked out my power around 9:00 PM and I did not see it restored until 3:00 AM. And then only after I finally managed to get to my power company’s webpage to report the outage. I figured they were working on it; I had flickers of power throughout the night so I did not immediately try to contact them. And when I did attempt my cell phone had a hell of a time getting to the site.

In the end, it is 7 hours of electricity for which I do not have to pay!

Oh, and I also picked up a new wireless router. My old beast, at least 11, maybe 12 years aged, finally stopped working properly. I could connect to it, but I could not get the internet except through a network cable from one of its ports. So I am now a proud owner of a much newer – and faster – wireless router! Hell, I did not realize how much slower the old beast was; my emails download at almost 8 times the speed. The real test was upgrading my new TVs software – what took over half an hour on the old router took all of 8 minutes on my new router! I was so happy that I did my happy dance. Thankfully I was not in public. I did scare my cats. It took them 24 hours before they would show themselves to me.

Everybody is a critic.
