As a former classics major, it’s always fascinating to me to see mythological imagery that is appropriated by modern leaders. In this case, Trump posted himself as Atlas holding up the world, apparently unaware that Atlas wasn’t a hero. He was a defeated enemy, condemned to eternal punishment for losing a war against the gods. He chose the image of a cosmic loser to represent himself. Well done. And this is why you should read, understand history, and have a modicum of emotional intelligence as a leader.
