Another Run!

I can honestly say I am getting more of a workout with running than with biking. However, despite it feeling shorter and quicker than it actually was, I didn’t set any new personal bests. That’s fine with me. I really only run to get in shape and to – hopefully – lose weight. At this point I’m grateful I no longer feel the pain in my legs as I did when I first started running.

Update: Well, I’ll be damned! I guess I did set a new personal best. I ran my fastest 3 K!

Today’s Run

Have to admit, I am surprised at how short today’s run seemed in comparison to Tuesday’s run. However, it was longer by over 12 minutes: Tuesday’s run was 58:23 with a distance of 4.29 miles. Today’s run was 01:10:27 with a distance of 5.01 miles. In every metric today’s run was not as well paced as Tuesday’s. However, I ran farther, and for a longer time than I’ve ever run, and that’s a good thing.

Oh, CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just sounded like Martha Stewart. Shoot me, shoot me now before I harm people.

Today’s Run

Nothing extensive, just that I chose to run a path in Howard, WI that has only one access point after I got on the trail, which meant heading southeast not knowing how long until I hit another access point. Well, it turns out there was no other access point; I ended up at the end of the trail. Thankfully it angled in such a way as limiting the distance back to Tina’s. Anyway, I am really surprised at how good it felt to run today; especially at that distance.

4.29 miles! Damn, not bad for an old man!

Okay, Okay, Here’s A Post

I am currently ensconced at the desk/kitchen table of my Girlfriend’s apartment in Green Bay, WI. Actually, Howard, WI. I’m on vacation and enjoying this time with Tina. Tomorrow we’re heading up to Door County to take the road that was closed last year due to construction. In any case, I’m thoroughly rested and relaxed already. Oh, and I ran the local streets yesterday and even managed a pace of 11:50 minutes per mile! That’s pretty damn phenomenal for an out of shape and overweight 52 year old.

Exhausted!

Damn! 3.5 miles in 46 minutes wiped me out! After doing the run this morning I decided to go do laundry and get shopping done. My legs feel like they are going to fall off! Still, I know it’s doing me good. I am woefully out of condition and over weight. I’ve had nothing but sputtering starts to exercising. If it isn’t a cold, it’s my shoulder, or my lower back. However, I persevere.

  4. Miles: 14.10
  5. Time: 00:56:02

  9. Temperature: 68°F
  10. Wind: NW 15 G 25 mph
  11. Humidity: 78%

Okay, that was surprising. I guess the jogging/running made a difference in my cardiovascular conditioning because I found I could push myself harder and feel the burn in my legs before the burn in my lungs. So, alternating between jogging and biking is going to continue. Seriously, 15 mph average with an additional 3 to 4 miles! That’s way cool.

2014 Tour De Rook – Hiatus

Yeah, so, I’ve put the bike aside and I’ve taken to jogging/walking. Honestly, it’s more walking than jogging, I can assure you. But the biking thing was just not getting my heart rate up. Nor was it helping me to lose weight. So, I’ve done a few things. One, obviously, is take up jogging. The second thing I’ve started is doing push up and crunches.

For the record; I’m miserably out of shape! Seriously. My form is good doing push ups, but I’m embarrassed to say I can’t do many. Crunches? Oh hell, I can’t get my damn shoulder blades off the ground I’m so miserable. I will admit, thought, that I’m feeling a better burn from jogging and doing push ups/crunches than from biking.

Don’t despair, though, for I shall return to biking soon enough. Indeed, once I get the flat fixed I’ll start working my bike back into the workout routine. I figure jog, rest, bike, rest, jog, rest, etc., etc., etc. Oh, but with push ups and crunches with both jogging and biking.

Anyway, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Tough leg. The wind was killer. With the various changes in trees, breaks, and open fields, the wind shifted around into various directions, not just west. However, the trip north put the wind mostly into my face. On the way back it was mostly to my back.

Also, I feel something in my lungs. Especially when I cough. It’s actually hard to cough, like there is some congestion on the outer, top edges of my lungs. It doesn’t hurt to cough, but it sure feels as if I can’t cough. I’m wondering if it’s an adverse reaction to the bee sting of Friday. If I still feel the congestion on Monday I’m going to the doctor.

I cut this leg short. I planned on going all the way to Finlayson, MN but was stung by a bee at the bench on the trail at the north side of Rutledge, MN. I’m not allergic, thankfully. However, it hurt just enough I thought I’d better head home and maybe ice the sting. I’m breathing fine, and am not feeling any constriction in my throat, so I know I’m okay. The sting aches, but very tolerable. So, yeah, I’ll live.

Oh My Gosh!

So, had my stents removed. First off, let me say: DAMN!!!!!!!!! Those things were huge! As long as my index finger, as wide as two of my fingers, between an eighth and a quarter inch thick, and with a channel twice the size of an aquarium air hose. Now I understand why my nose was upset.

Anyway, I slept unbelievably well last night. I put a towel on my pillows in case of any blood drainage. And trust me, there is now a ton of blood that comes out when I blow my nose.

Sorry, I digress.

I fell asleep within moments of putting my head to my pillow at 10:18 PM. Next thing I know, it’s 4:20 AM! No waking up every hour on the hour! The kicker? It was a full moon last night. I am notorious for not sleeping well at all on a full moon.

Honestly, I had the surgery more because of the constant sinus infections. However, I am beginning to realize just what an amazing benefit it did for my sleep.
